Putnam, Rufus
(9 abr. 1738, Sutton, Mass.,–4 may. 1824, Marietta, Ohio, EE.UU.).

Oficial de ejército de la guerra de independencia de EE.UU. Primo de Israel Putnam, combatió en la guerra francesa e india. Ingresó al Ejército continental en 1775, organizó fortificaciones en Boston y Nueva York (1776–77), y en West Point (1778), y combatió en la batalla de Saratoga. En 1783 ascendió a general de brigada. Después de la guerra colaboró en la fundación de la Ohio Company of Associates con miras a obtener una concesión de tierras para asentar a veteranos de la guerra; lideró al grupo que fundó Marietta, Ohio (1788). Entre 1796 y 1803 fue agrimensor general de EE.UU.
